Help & FAQ
Can't find your answer? Email hello@noums.net and you'll hear back from a real person.
Which browsers work?
Chrome or Edge on a computer work best. Safari works too, including on iPhone, though the live transcript there may pause between sentences (the recap at the end still counts everything). Firefox isn't supported, because it doesn't offer the speech recognition noums uses for the live transcript.
The microphone isn't working.
Your browser asks for microphone permission the first time you record. If you clicked Block, click the lock icon next to the address bar, set Microphone to Allow, and reload the page. Also check that the right mic is selected in your computer's sound settings. Running a calibration (Settings → Calibrate) helps noums tell your voice from background noise.
It missed an “um,” or counted a word that wasn't a filler.
noums can't hear tone, so it looks at the words around “like,” “so,” “you know” and “kind of.” When one sits mid-sentence and looks like a real word (“I didn't like this guy,” “I was so tired”), it's marked as a maybe with a dashed outline and a “?”. Maybes aren't counted unless you tap them. The live counter is a quick estimate. When you finish, the recording gets a second, more accurate check and the recap is rebuilt from it, so trust the recap over the live count. If the recap still marks something that wasn't a filler, tap it to remove it and your score updates.
Does noums record or store my voice?
noums never saves your recordings. While you talk, your browser's speech recognition turns your voice into the live transcript (in Chrome, that means Google processes the audio). When you finish, the recording is sent once to our speech provider, Deepgram, to count fillers accurately, and then thrown away (noums opts out of Deepgram using it to train its AI). You can turn that second check off in Settings. Full details are in the Privacy Policy.
Do I need an account?
Yes, but it's free. Sign in with Google, or get a sign-in link by email (no password). Your account lets your practice history follow you between devices.
My sign-in email didn't arrive.
Give it a minute, then check your spam or promotions folder for an email from noums <hello@noums.net>. Each link works once and expires, so request a new one if it's been a while. Still nothing? Try Google sign-in, or email us.
How does presentation mode work?
Choose Presentation, paste your talking points one per line, and optionally set a target length. Press Next point (or the → key, or a presentation clicker) as you move through your talk. The recap shows which points you seemed to cover, how long you spent on each, and your time against the target. Coverage is matched by keywords, so if you put something in different words it may be marked as missed.
Is noums free?
Yes. Everything is free while noums is in beta. A paid Pro plan is planned for later. If it launches, the features you use today stay free.
How do I delete my account or data?
Email hello@noums.net from the address you signed up with and we'll delete your account and synced practice history. Anything saved only in your browser can be removed by clearing this site's data in your browser settings.
