What's changed in noums, newest first.
Fixed: “We didn't catch any words”
If you pressed Finish while still talking, or right after, noums could miss your last sentence, and with a short answer that was all of it. The recap then said it didn't catch any words even though your transcript appeared moments later, and the session wasn't saved. Every word you say before pressing Finish now counts, the recap updates once the full transcript arrives, and the session is saved.
Smarter about “like” and “so”
noums used to count every “like” as a filler, even in “I didn't like the movie.” Now, when “like,” “so,” “you know” or “kind of” sits in the middle of a sentence and the words around it suggest a real word (“I didn't like this guy,” “I was so tired”), it's marked as a maybe: shown with a dashed outline and a “?”, and not counted. Tap a maybe if it really was a filler and it counts. Fillers at the start of a sentence, or next to a comma, a pause or an “um,” still count as usual.
noums has a new home: noums.net
noums moved to its own address. Old links still work and send you here automatically. Email sign-in now works for everyone, and sign-in emails come from noums.
Presentation mode
Rehearse a class presentation, speech or pitch against your own talking points. Step through them as you go, and the recap shows which points you covered, how long each took, and how you did against your target time.
More accurate “um” counting
Browsers clean up microphone audio for phone calls, and that cleanup was quietly muffling the “ums” noums is trying to count. noums now listens to your microphone without that filtering, so far fewer fillers slip through.
noums launches
The first version went live: interview and free-talk practice, a live filler counter, and a recap with your fluency score. Within the month it gained accounts with Google and email sign-in, history that syncs between devices, mic calibration, and a second, more accurate filler check after each session.
