Privacy Policy
Last updated October 3, 2026
noums is a small, independent project. This page explains, in plain language, what information noums collects, why, and who else handles it.
The short version: noums never saves recordings of your voice. It keeps your email address and the numbers from your practice sessions (scores, filler counts, durations), so your history follows you between devices. It doesn't sell your data or show ads.
What we collect
Your account
- Email address, when you sign in by email or with Google.
- Your name and profile picture from Google, if you sign in with Google, as Google provides them.
Your practice sessions
When you're signed in, each session's results are saved to your account: when it happened, the mode, how long it lasted, word count, filler counts by word, fluency score, pauses and stalls. Transcripts and recordings are not saved to your account.
Visits
When you open noums, it records that a page was visited and when, and links the visit to your account if you're signed in. We use this to count how many people use noums. There are no advertising or third-party tracking cookies.
Stored only in your browser
Your settings, microphone calibration, talking points, recent transcripts and an offline copy of your history are kept in your browser's storage on your device. They aren't sent to us. Clearing this site's data in your browser removes them.
What happens to your voice
- Live transcript: your browser's built-in speech recognition turns speech into text as you talk. In Chrome and Edge this audio is processed by Google or Microsoft under their own privacy policies. noums doesn't receive this audio.
- Accurate filler check: when you finish a session, the recording is sent once to Deepgram, a speech recognition company, which returns a word-by-word transcript so noums can count fillers accurately. noums doesn't keep the recording or the transcript on its servers. noums opts out of Deepgram's program for using customer audio to improve its AI, so Deepgram processes the recording to return the transcript but doesn't keep it to train on. Deepgram's privacy policy covers how it handles data otherwise. You can turn this check off in Settings. noums then uses only an on-device estimate.
- Camera: optional and off by default. The video is shown only to you and is never recorded or sent anywhere.
Who else handles data
- Supabase: hosts our database and sign-in system (your email, account and session results).
- Deepgram: the accurate filler check described above.
- Resend: sends sign-in emails, so it receives your email address.
- Google: Google sign-in, if you use it, and live speech recognition in Chrome.
- GitHub Pages: hosts the website, so it handles normal web requests such as your IP address.
We don't sell your information or share it with anyone else, except where the law requires it.
Who can see your data
Only you can see your own practice history in the app. The person who runs noums can see account email addresses, session results and visit counts in an admin dashboard, to run and improve the service.
Your choices
- Turn off the accurate filler check in Settings.
- Use noums without the camera.
- Ask us to delete your account and synced history by emailing hello@noums.net from your account's address.
Children
noums isn't intended for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from them. If you're a parent or guardian and think your child under 13 has signed up, email us and we'll delete the account.
Changes
If this policy changes, we'll update it here and change the date at the top.
